The Price is Right...

Or at least it was for the last 35 years… I watched the final episode of the Price is Right today and it saddened me a bit. The show has been on TV for my entire life and I got used to seeing Bob Barker every day I got to stay home from school. It was like the secret treat you got for being sick; not to mention it was fun to play along – yes we played along even BEFORE the idea of interactive TV even existed. My sister and I were so addicted to the show that we used to make up our own games to have each other play to win prizes: usually a Popsicle or some Monopoly money but we didn’t care. For Ginger it was Plinko and for me it was the Mountain Climber. I used to watch the show day after day hoping for the infamous yodle – Leh Eee Odle Leh Eee Odle Leh Eee Odle Ay – as I chanted “Fall! Fall! Fall! Fall!”

In some ways I suppose that one of my most prominent childhood memories is watching a daytime TV game-show, but the fact that the show lasted 35 years says a lot in itself. It was one of the many rocks in my life that has no weathered away. Bob will be missed, but I’m glad he was a part of my life. Thanks for the memories Bob! – Steve
